When the previous-generation Dodge Charger went out of production last year it marked the end of an era.

Not just for muscle cars, but for police cars.

The Charger was the last pursuit-rated vehicle available for law enforcement that wasn’t an SUV or pickup.

But that may change soon.

The two-door electric Dodge Charger Daytona that goes on sale this summer will be followed by a four-door in early 2025. Both will also be available then with a turbocharged inline-six-cylinder internal combustion engine in a trim simply called the Charger. The 3.0-liter “SIXPACK” engine will be offered in 420 hp and 550 hp variants to start.

The old four-door Charger handily outsold the two-door Challenger, with sales last year coming in at 75,920 for the Charger and 44,960 for the Challenger.

So, does he see a future for the new Charger in law enforcement?

“TBD, but yes, it’s definitely on our radar because that is a big business for us,” he said.

One thing that’s not coming back anytime soon is the Dodge Challenger name, which Kuniskis says is “on the shelf” for now.
