Well that was … fast.
Spire Motorsports driver Connor Zilisch set a new track record at The Circuit Of The Americas in Austin for the NASCAR Truck Series as he claimed pole position for the XPEL 225 in his first race for the team.
Zilisch lapped the 3.41-mile track in 2 minutes, 11.983 second to crush the previous record of 2 minutes, 13.613 set by Ross Chastain last year.
Zilisch, 17, is coming off LMP2 class wins in the 12 Hours of Sebring and Rolex 24 at Daytona IMSA endurance races, which were his first two in the series.

He thanked the Spire Motorsports team for giving him a good truck to drive.
“This thing was basically driving itself, I don’t even want to take any of the credit for it, Zilisch said.
“It’s awesome to come here my first race and be on the pole.”
Corey Heim was just .714 seconds behind and will start next to Zilisch on the front row for the race, which is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET.
