See It: Marco Andretti Loses The Axle Off His NASCAR Truck at COTA
Now that’s a live axle with a life of its own.
Marco Andretti suffered an unusual mechanical failure in the NASCAR Truck Series XPEL 225 at The Circuit of the Americas, when his No. 4 Chevrolet’s rear axle housing ejected itself during the race.
Andretti was braking for Turn 11 with two laps left in the race when the truck bucked up and the axle came loose with the wheels attached and rolled onto the infield grass.
The reason for the failure has not yet been determined. Andretti was uninjured and ended up being scored with a 31st place finish.

The incident led to a two-lap overtime finish that saw Stage 2 winner Corey Heim drive his No. 11 Toyota away to a commanding victory.
Pole-sitter Connor Zilisch, who set a lap record during qualifying for his first ever Truck Series race, went off the track under braking at the first turn in the race, but put in an impressive drive from the back in the field to finish fourth behind full-time Truck Series drivers Heim, Taylor Gray and Ty Majeski.
