It’s a race to the bottom … of the barrel.

The Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro both went out of production last December, but there were still thousands of each on dealer lots at the beginning of the year.

Dodge has even continued its Last Call advertising campaign to keep moving the metal until the arrival of the 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona electric muscle car this summer, which will be followed by a six-cylinder-powered Charger early next year.

The Camaro doesn’t currently have a replacement on the way, but there’s a clear sales winner right now.

Through the first three months of 2024, Dodge delivered 9,737 Challengers, which was down from 11,371 during the same period last year, while just 3,574 Camaros were delivered.

According to Cars.com, there are less than 1,500 Camaros still out there up for grabs, but more than 10,000 Challengers.

Both were handily beaten by the Ford Mustang, which was updated for 2024 and is the last remaining pony car that’s available with a V8 engine. Ford delivered 13,707 Mustangs through March and has no plans to end its production or electrify it in the coming years.

That’s also true for the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette, which is the only other two-door American sports car on sale. Chevy delivered 8,576 during the first quarter, which was an 8.5% increase from last year.

Dodge also delivered 10,660 Charger sedans that are also out of production, but set to be replaced next year by four-door versions of the new Charger Daytona and Charger, which are otherwise identical to the two-door model.
