Tesla on Monday settled a lawsuit that was about to go to trial with the family of an Apple engineer who was killed when his Tesla crashed in Mountain View California in 2018.
Huang’s 2017 Model X swerved into a barrier dividing Route 101 from an exit ramp.
An NTSB investigation determined that Huang was using a video game at the time of the incident while the car’s Autopilot system was engaged.
The terms of the settlement were not announced.
The NTSB has looked at nearly 1,000 reports of accidents involving Autopilot and has launched 40 formal investigations into incidents that accounted for 23 deaths.
Tesla has updated Autopilot at the behest of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to improve its driver attention monitoring systems.
All Teslas come with a version of Autopilot and Elon Musk announced in March that every Tesla equipped with the necessary hardware will be getting an month-long trial of the more advanced Full Self-Driving feature, which is a $12,000 option that is also offered through a $199 monthly subscription.
