$325,000 Ford Mustang GTD Applications Are Now Being Accepted And You Are Probably Not Cool Enough To Buy One
And you thought it was rough when the salesman went back to talk to the manager.
Ford has started taking applications for the upcoming Mustang GTD supercar, which is inspired by the vehicles it races in IMSA and WEC.
The GTD is built by Multimatic on the production Mustang chassis but shares its carbon fiber body style with the competition car and gets a thoroughly reworked suspension system.
It’s also powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that Ford promises will deliver at least 800 hp, making it the most powerful production vehicle Ford has ever sold.
It also has a huge rear wing with a drag reduction system that can change its angle with the press of a button on the steering wheel.
Larry Holt, Multimatic vice president of special vehicle operations, told American Cars And Racing that the top speed is expected to be 210 mph in its low drag setting and 185 mph in high-downforce mode.
Ford hasn’t announced exactly how many it plans on building, but Ford CEO Jim Farley said that they’ve pretty much all be allocated to dealers already. Now it’s time for the buyers to raise their hands.

Ford is requiring customers to fill out applications to be considered for the opportunity to purchase one, and it’s not just about whether or not you can pay its $325,000 price tag.
The form asks you to fill out your personal Mustang ownership history, whether you are more of a street or track driver and if you own any other exotic performance cars.
It also wants to know if you consider yourself “an influencer of public opinion” and the size of your audience on social media.
It’s not clear who the panel of judgement is, but approved applicants will be connected with a concierge who will help them through the purchase process by connecting them with a particular dealer. There are still franchise laws to think about.
The first cars are expected to be delivered either in late 2024 or early 2025, but there is a much more affordable way to get an 800 hp Mustang sooner than that.

Ford Performance is selling a supercharger kit for the Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter V8 that cranks it up to 800 hp for $9,995, which means you can get a car with it for as little as $53,545 if you’re willing to do the work yourself. Now that’s a social media video we’d click on.
