Ford will recall a combined 456,565 Maverick pickups and Bronco Sport SUVs to address a battery control issue.
The models, which are built on a shared platform, may experience the loss of engine power or 12-volt accessories, including the hazard lights, due to a low state of battery charge.
Following several owner reports, Ford discovered that the powertrain and body control module calibrations may now detect sudden 12-volt battery degradation, which could lead to the engine turning off or not restarting after a stop/start event.
The report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that 100% of the recalled vehicles have the issue, which will be remedied with a software calibration performed at a Ford service center.
