Subaru Legacy Sedan Being Discontinued Because People Want More SUVs
The first model Subaru built in the United States is being retired after 35 years.
2025 will be the final year of production for the Indiana-built Legacy sedan as the the market continues its shift toward SUVs, the company has announced.
The Legacy has accounted for more than 1.3 million sales to date and was the basis for the popular Outback model.
The starting price for the Legacy will remain the same for 2025 at $26,015. That includes standard all-wheel-drive and a 182 hp flat-four-cylinder engine, while a 260 hp turbocharged engine is available on higher trims.
SUBARU MAY ADD KENTUCKY-BUILT 3-ROW ELECTRIC SUV
Subaru sold just over 25,000 of the model last year compared to nearly 162,000 Outbacks.
The Outback, Crosstrek and Ascent are built alongside the Legacy at Subaru’s Lafayette plant and will absorb the extra production capacity.
Several other Subaru models, including the BRZ and Forester, are imported from Japan.
