Kyle Larson put on a show at Kokomo Speedway on Monday night, but not the one he was hoping for.

Larson was competing in the High Limit Racing series that he co-owns during the lead-up for his attempt to qualify for the Indy 500 this weekend.

The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Champion was fighting Cale Thomas in the first heat race for the final transfer spot, taking the inside line.

Larson pushed up the track and into Thomas’s car, sending it into the wall and sending his own into a barrel-roll, flipping three times before landing on the wheels.

Neither driver was injured in the incident, but Larson was clearly upset with himself during an interview on FloRacing after he got out of his car.

“I put myself in a hole, so trying to race hard, and just ran ourselves out of space there, so, probably my fault, but just goes back to qualifying, so I suck.”

Larson went on to finish third in the C Feature race and miss the A Feature, while Thomas would advance to the A Feature, finishing 15th.

It was Larson’s second wreck of the week, following a race-ending crash at Darlington Speedway in the NASCAR Cup Series Goodyear 400.

The pre-race favorite had a flat tire with 41 laps to go and spun into the wall, ending his day.

Practice for the Indy 500 was scheduled to start on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m, but was hit with a rain delay. There will be sessions throughout the week leading up to the first round of qualifying on Saturday.
