It Sounds Like The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Has A Turbocharged V8

The lead up to the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s reveal this summer continues with a new teaser video.

It features a pretty clear clip of what the car’s engine sounds like and some new hints at what kind it is.

The video shows a ghostly rendering of the car speeding away and reveals its giant rear wing and central exhaust pipe layout.

That matches the one seen on the Corvette Z06, which is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 rated at 670 hp.

Chevy also references the engine with a small “Gemini” rocket icon emerging from the smoke the vehicle leaves behind. As Motor1 points out, it is the same logo featured on the 5.5-liter LT1 V8.

The sound of the ZR1’s engine is unmistakably turbocharged, rather than supercharged like the recent ZR1 models were.

Chevrolet hasn’t indicated how much power the car will have, but does bill it with “unthinkable speed.”

There’s also no suggestion from the teaser that it will be electrified like the Corvette E-Ray, which is an all-wheel-drive hybrid model that has a 160 hp electric motor driving the front wheels that isn’t mechanically connected to the mid-mounted V8 powertrain that drives the rear wheels.

There will certainly be more teasers to come before the ZR1’s final reveal, the date for which has not been announced.

Along with the E-Ray, Z06 and Stingray, it will be the fourth iteration of the eighth-generation Corvette, but there is at least one more on the way.

General Motors president Mark Reuss announced in 2022 that an all-electric version would be added to the lineup.

We’ll have to wait a little longer to hear what that one sounds like, but it will surely be nothing like the ZR1.
