NASCAR and IMSA have announced the launch of the NASCAR Classic series for vintage stock cars.

The series will be run by the IMSA-owned Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) and will hold its first event at Virginia International Raceway alongside the IMSA Michelin GT Challenge at VIR weekend, Aug. 23-25.

NASCAR Classic will be open to all Group 8 Historic Stock Cars, which include all Cup Series, Xfinity Series, Truck Series and ARCA cars prior to the current generation. Each race will be limited to 30 entries.

“The across-the-board support for and the rapid growth of the HSR Classic Stock Cars category made starting a dedicated series around the division an easy decision,” HSR President Chris Ward said in a press release.
