The Hennessey Mammoth 400 Is The Dodge Viper Of Pickups
It’s a V8-powered salute to a V10 car.
The Hennessey Mammoth 400 is a new version of the 2024 Ram 1500 from the Texas tuning house that is a street-focused sendoff for the Hemi-powered pickup.
Ram has discontinued V8s in its light duty pickup lineup for 2025 in favor of a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder.
The Mammoth 400 features the Ram 1500’s 5.7-liter V8 breathing through a Borla exhaust and carbon fiber exhaust tips.
Hennessey collaborated with Fox Factory and Ridetech develop a lowered suspension for the full-size truck that improves its on-pavement handling. Black 22-inch wheels are wrapped in street performance tires and offered with a satin or gloss finish.
Custom front and rear bumpers complete the look and Hennessey is only offering the trucks in Dodge Viper red, white and GTS blue paint with white stripes, a tip of the hat to Hennessey’s earliest modified cars from the 1990s.
Hennessey will build just 250 Mammoth 400s, which are priced at $39,995 on top of the Ram 1500 Laramie they are based on, and customers can order it with either rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive. The Hennessey logo is embroidered in the seats and a numbered plaque applied to the engine bay.
The Mammoth 400 is the polar opposite of Hennessey’s Mammoth 1000, which is based on the also-discontinued Ram 1500 TRX.
The Mammoth 1000 enhances the off-road pickup with a new supercharger for its 6.2-liter V8 that cranks the horsepower up from 702 hp to 1,019 hp and and a strengthened transmission for $39,950.
It is also available with an off-road package that adds things like steel bumpers, LED lights, a two-inch leveling kit, 37-inch off-road tires, Wilwood brakes with larger discs and electric rock rail side steps for $19,950.
Hennessey hasn’t announced any plans for the 2025 Ram yet, but the company has plenty of experience with turbocharged engines, so expect to see something coming down the road soon.
Mopar is already working on a crate motor version of the “Hurricane” engine with more than 1,000 hp, so there’s plenty of potential in those six pistons.
