Will Power Wins Iowa IndyCar Race As Sting Ray Robb Flips And Heads To Hospital
Will Power checked another track off his IndyCar bucket list with a win in the Hy-Vee One Step 250 at Iowa Speedway on Sunday.
It was Power’s first win at the track in 19 tries and first oval win since Pocono in 2019.
The Team Penske driver started 22nd, but made steady progress as pole-sitter and Saturday Iowa winner Scott McLaughlin led the pack to the first round of pit stops approaching lap 100, when Power was running third.
A yellow flag during the pit cycle saw Palou and Power take the restart ahead of McLaughlin and that’s where they’d stay until the next cycle with just more than 200 laps complete. Power waited an extra lap this time and came back out in front.

He led the way comfortably from there, with Palou coming within half a second in the final 10 laps as lapped traffic came into play, but not able to get past.
Just as Power took the checkered flag, farther back in the field Sting Ray Robb ran into the back of Alexander Rossi and launched his A.J. Foyt Racing Chevrolet straight up into the air and then rolled upon landing.
Rossi’s spinning car collected Kyle Kirkwood and Ed Carpenter, who’s car landed on top of Kirkwood’s. All three were fine, but Robb was stretchered away by the emergency medical team and airlifted to a hospital.
“Sting Ray is up, alert and in good spirits,” his team said.
Power credited his win to fuel saving he was able to do while running behind the leaders before the last stint.
The win moved Power into second in the season standings, 35 points behind Palou.
“We have a great chance, we really do,” he said.
UPDATE: A.J. Foyt Racing announced Sunday evening that Robb had been cleared and released from the hospital.
