The Mystichrome Ford Mustang Is Back
It’s the most famous color in Ford’s paint pallet.
The 2004 Mystichrome Mustang SVT Cobra is one of the most legendary limited edition American cars ever built.
The V8-powered model featured a color-shifting paint with aluminum flakes that looked green or amber or gold or purple depending on the angle from which it was viewed.
It was a follow up to the 1996 Mystic Cobra that wore a similar paint. Only 1,010 of the 2004 cars and 1,990 of the 1996 cars were sold. But now you can get a new one.

Vaughn Gittin Jr’s RTR Vehicles has launched a new Paint-to-Sample program for its custom Mustangs that includes the return of the authentic Mystichrome color, a curated RTR Extended Color Palette of unique hues. There’s also a Paint-to-Sample option that can match pretty much any color.

The North Carolina-based company is an official Ford partner and has more than 30 authorized dealers in North America and more around the world.
Along with examples of the individual colors, RTR Vehicles released a car painted in a rainbow of the Extended Color Palette that hearkens back to the famous “paint chip car” from the 1970 Plymouth Barracuda advertisements.
The ordered vehicles all start out as black chassis cars and have the exterior components removed for painting, which covers the interior door jambs, fenders, and trunk jambs.
Prices start at $8,995 for standard paints, which includes the Extended Color Palette except for Mystichrome and Urban Bamboozle, which are premium and priced at $15,995. The paint to sample option is an extra $5,000 on top of a standard or premium choice.
RTR Vehicles offers a range of Mustang parts and builds that feature unique styling touches inspired by the RTR Drift Team’s Mustangs along with performance upgrades.
A top Spec 3 build starts at $22,495 plus the price of a new Mustang GT and adds a supercharger that boosts the 5.0-liter V8 to 810 hp plus and adjustable high performance suspension and other parts and modifications.
