The First 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Is For Sale And Worth Millions

The first 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 is coming up for auction at the Mecum Auctions Monterey event, just eight months after it was last sold.
The competition-focused convertible crossed the block at at Mecum’s Kissimmee, Fla., event in January as a package deal with the last L88 that was built in 1969.
The winning bidder paid $2,585,000 for the pair, with many valuations putting the 1967 car closer to $2 million on its own.

The L88 was a limited line of 216 barely disguised race cars built across three model years, with just 20 being ordered in 1967.
Along with competition grade brakes, suspensions and four-speed manual transmissions, the cars have a high output 427 cubic-inch V8 that was advertised at 430 hp, but really put out more than 500 hp.
The auction car is the only 1967 example painted Tuxedo Black and was first raced by Tony DeLorenzo and Jerry Thompson, but has a competition history that stretches into 1982. It has since been fully restored.
A 1967 L88 was sold in 2014 for $3.85 million, which currently stands as the highest price ever paid for a Corvette, but the values appear to have fallen since then.
That car was offered for auction this January, but the bidding topped out at $2.7 million, which was short of its undisclosed reserve.
Another 1967 L88 — the only one painted Sunfire Yellow — was sold in March for $1.815 million.

The first L88 will be under the spotlights on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Mecum’s Monterey event and not the only amazing American machine at the auction.

Among the other million-dollar models are a 1969 Ford GT40 Lightweight, a 1930 Packard 734 Speedster Boattail Runabout and a 1969 Dodge Hemi Daytona that was last auctioned in 2022 for $1.32 million.
