2025 GMC Terrain Revealed With Truck-Like Styling And Off-Road Model
The GMC Terrain no longer looks like a soft-roader.
The compact crossover utility vehicle has been redesigned for 2025 with a tougher truck-like look.
The Terrain features a large upright grille, headlights with a C-shaped element and muscular curves along its flanks.
The interior borrows its styling from GMC’s larger SUVs and features a digital gauge cluster and a 15-inch infotainment system touchscreen display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included along with Google Assistant.

The only engine on offer is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder rated at 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque, which is a carryover from the 2024 model. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which replaces the nine-speed in the current Terrain.
Front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions will be offered with the entry-level Elevation trim launching later this year. It will be joined by an off-road AT4 and luxurious Denali in the 2025 calendar year, both of which will be 2026 model year vehicles.

The AT4 will feature standard all-wheel-drive, a lifted ride height, 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, a Terrain drive mode, red front recovery hooks, extra underbody protection and a hill-descent control.
The Denali also gets standard all-wheel-drive and a computer-controlled adaptive suspension, snazzy 19-inch and 20-inch wheels and four heated seats among other upscale touches.
All Terrains are equipped with a package of front and rear automatic emergency brakes and a 360-degree camera system will be available. GMC’s hands-free Super Cruise highway driving system will not be on the options sheet. Pricing will be released closer to when the Terrain goes on sale.
Keep an eye on 2027, however. That’s when General Motors plans to introduce new hybrid powertrains to its U.S. SUV lineup. It hasn’t confirmed what to expect, but plug-in hybrids are expected and there’s a good chance the Terrain will be one of the first to get it.
Chevrolet sells a plug-in hybrid version of the new Equinox in China called the Equinox Plus that has a 365 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain and the Terrain is mechanically the same vehicle.
The U.S. market Equinox has also been updated for 2025 and will be hitting showrooms soon.
