It’s the most international team in the garage.

Trackhouse Racing confirmed on Saturday in Daytona that it is adding a third chartered Cup Series car in 2025 that will be driven by Xfinity Series driver Shane Van Gisbergen.

New Zealand’s Van Gisbergen famously won his first-ever NASCAR Cup Series race when he made a guest appearance for Trackhouse in the 2023 Chicago Street Race.

“This is an important step for our organization and it’s a credit to the men and women at Trackhouse Racing whose hard work and success the last few years has led to us expanding to three Cup teams in 2025,” Trackhouse founder Justin Marks said.

Trackhouse has secured the No. 88 for the car which was made famous by Dale Earnhardt Jr. when he was at Hendrick Motorsports. Marks said Earnhardt gave his personal approval for the swap.

“It’s a really cool team to be a part of” Van Gisbergen said during a press conference in Daytona.

The 35-year-old is currently 12th in the regular season Xfinity Series standings for Kaulig Racing, but has three wins and is fifth in the playoff picture.

Trackhouse was able to acquire the charter thanks to the dissolution of Stewart-Haas Racing, which put three on the market. The price paid was not announced, but charter values have recently been estimated between $30-$40 million.

Prior to his move to NASCAR, Van Gisbergen was a three-time title winner in Australia’s Supercars Championship series. He’ll be joining Florida’s Ross Chastain and Mexico’s Daniel Suarez (who also has U.S. citizenship) at Trackhouse.

“This is what I have planned for and I am ready,” Van Gisbergen said. “I know there is a tough learning curve ahead, but the best way to learn is to go out and do it. I feel I have made progress running the Xfinity Series this year with Kaulig Racing and I can’t thank everyone there enough. I look forward to the Cup Series. Those drivers and teams are the best in the world and it will be an honor to be part of their races.”
