The spoiler’s day was almost spoiled!

NASCAR Truck Series driver Layne Riggs won the opening playoff race at The Milwaukee Mile on Sunday by holding off Ty Majeski and the rest of the field for the final 53 laps.

It was the 22-year-old rookie’s first win and it stole an automatic trip to the second round of the playoffs from the 10 contenders, including second-place Majeski and regular season champion Christian Eckes, who finished third.

Riggs, whose father Scott was a five-time Truck Series winner, jumped on top of his truck to celebrated and pumped his fist in the air so hard that he dislocated his shoulder.

Riggs was writhing in pain as he got off the truck before his teammates helped put it back in, then immediately started jumping for joy again.

“It hurts like a mug, but, hey, it was worth it,” the Front Row Motorsports driver said in victory lane after the incident. “It’s not the first time that it’s happened to me, but it ain’t gonna slow me down.”

Riggs wasn’t the only first-time NASCAR winner this weekend. Cup Series driver Harrison Burton won the Coke Zero Sugar 400 on Saturday night in a dramatic finish to notch the 100th win for the legendary Wood Brothers Racing team.

The Truck Series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway for the next playoff race on Sept. 19 while the Cup Series has one more regular season race at Darlington Raceway on Sept. 1 where a final win-and-you’re-in berth to the playoffs is still on the line.

Ty Gibbs and Chris Buescher sit just above the cutline for the 16 Cup Series playoffs spots while Bubba Wallace and Ross Chastain are knocking on the door and looking to get in on points if they can’t win.
