Kyle Busch Has Never Been To Bowman Gray Stadium, But Has A Plan To Win The Clash At The Madhouse
Not counting the tracks NASCAR recently started adding to the schedule with the Charlotte Roval, Kyle Busch had notched a Cup Series win at every one on which he had raced.
He also had nearly clean sweeps in the Xfinity Series and Truck Series.
Needless to say, the prolific two-time Cup Series champion has been around the block a few times, but there’s one iconic oval that he’s not only never won at, but has never even visited.
The Bowman Gray Stadium quarter-mile track in Winston-Salem, N.C., is both historic and unique. It resides inside of a concrete stadium built in 1937 that is also home to a college football field.

Surprisingly, despite it being just an hour outside of NASCAR’s home in Charlotte, Busch revealed during the press conference before the Southern 500 that he’s “never been on the premise.” “I’ve seen a lot of highlight reels from over there,” he said.
The battles between cars and the drivers in the infield have earned it “The Madhouse” nickname.
Busch will definitely be heading there next February, however, as NASCAR will be holding The Clash season-opening exhibition event at the track on Feb 2.

It will mark the first time since 1971 Cup Series cars have raced at the venue, the last being a regular season points race won by Bobby Allison. But before he does, he’ll be going to school.

“I will have to call upon a driver coach, probably Burt Meyers to give me some pointers about what to do and what to look out for and how to get around that place,” Busch said.
Meyers became the youngest Bowman Gray Stadium modified champion in 1999 at age 23 and won his 11th title at the track this year.
“Him and I are pretty close and been friends for a long time, so he seems to be a champion over there and knows how to get around there well.”

In the past three years that The Clash was held on a temporary quarter-mile track inside of the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, Busch finished 2nd, 3rd and 2nd, so he might not have that much to learn.
