Kyle Larson’s NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs got off to the worst start possible as he crashed out of the Quaker State 400 Presented by Walmart at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Lap 56 of the 200-lap race.

Larson was coming through turns one and two when his left rear slipped out and he appeared to overcorrect and run straight into the wall.

He was unharmed and said he’s not sure what happened as he exited the infield care center.

Larson’s car was hit by Chase Briscoe, who was also uninjured but eliminated from the race just a week after winning his way into the playoffs at Darlington by holding off Kyle Busch. Ryan Blaney went on to win the first stage under caution.

Larson entered the first playoffs race as the points leader ahead of Christopher Bell and regular season champion Tyler Reddick.

In an anonymous poll of the 16 playoffs drivers, Bell was picked as the favorite to win the championship with eight votes to four for Larson.
