Kyle Larson has made plenty of history for Hendrick Motorsports in the four seasons he’s been with the team, and now he has a very cool souvenir.

The 2021 Cup Series champion this week picked up one of the limited edition 40th Anniversary Chevrolet Camaros that Hendrick Motorsports is building to commemorate its four decade run in NASCAR.

“I wanted this Camaro as a cool way to celebrate Rick (Hendrick) and 40 years of Hendrick Motorsports. I knew it’d be a big year for me with the Indy 500, and now I’ve got something to help remember this season,” Larson said in a press release.

The Radiant Red Tintcoat cars are based on the Camaro SS with the 1LE Track Performance Package and feature a graphics package inspired by the Camaro that Hendrick raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023, plus badges, puddle lamps and a serialized number below the driver’s side headlight.

Several of the builds appear to still be available for purchase on HendricKCars.com, which is the primary sponsor of Larson’s car, but only 39 in total will be sold to customers, all of which include a behind the scenes tour of the Hendrick Motorsports facility. Hendrick described Larson’s acquisition as a purchase, but he has already seen the shop a couple of times. Hendrick is offering the 40th through a sweepstakes in collaboration with Ally that runs through Sep. 20th.

As for Larson, this may be the last new Camaro he ever gets. The model was discontinued last year and Chevrolet has no immediate plans to replace it. That includes the NASCAR Cup Series version.

NASCAR rules allow Chevrolet to continue racing its Camaro-bodied cars indefinitely, but it can’t make any changes to them. Chevrolet has been tight-lipped about what will replace them, and when.

It might need to soon, however, as just five Chevrolet drivers qualified among the 16 playoffs spots, including all four of Hendrick’s cars.

It’s possible that Chevrolet or GM will switch to a different model, but with the Malibu also going out of production this year, the only vehicle it still sells that’s not an SUV or pickup is the Corvette, which is a mid-engine design.

The Camaro name may return on a car one day, but it might be a very different one. GM President Mark Reuss said earlier this year that he could see it being reimagined as an affordable electric performance four-door sedan, but such a model has not yet been confirmed for production.
