Ford will start including a homer charger and installation with every electric vehicle it sells or leases moving forward.

The program applies to all Ford F-150 Lightnings, Mustang Mach-Es and E-Transits, which are the three EVs it currently has in its lineup.

Ford CEO Jim Farley said it is the result of fact-finding road trips he made across the U.S. and Europe in EVs that led him to understand charging convenience is still the top pain point of EV ownership.

“While we’ve been focused on making public charging easier – including giving Ford owners access to Tesla’s Superchargers with an adapter as part of BlueOval Charge Network – we have learned just how important home charging is to overall electric vehicle adoption in the U.S. Nearly 90% of shoppers say they would be more likely to buy an electric vehicle if they knew they could charge at home,” Farley wrote in a LinkedIn post.

“Filling up at home with electricity can be a significant cost save for many owners compared to filling up with gas. Problem is nearly half of them don’t know how home charging works. Where do you buy the charger? Who installs it? What does it cost?”

The program covers standard installation costs. Not all homes have the necessary electrical system to support a 240-volt charger. Ford has not said how long the offer will stay in place. Its next generation electric van is scheduled to go on sale in 2026 and two electric pickups should arrive at dealers in 2027. The first will be a small truck, which will be followed later in the year by a full-size electric pickup currently known internally as the T3.

Farley has described the T3 as a “Millennium Falcon with a back porch attached” and several patent applications uncovered by American Cars And Racing shed some light on possible features it may have, including a hatchback connecting the cabin and the bed.
