The Chevrolet Trax Is The New King Of GM’s SUVs
Hordes of shoppers have been making tracks to Chevy dealers this year.
The Chevrolet Trax racked up 149,762 deliveries through September making it GM’s best selling SUV so far in 2024.
It’s also the third-best selling SUV from an American brand behind the Tesla Model Y — which has sales in excess of 200,000, but Tesla hasn’t released an exact number — and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Jeep delivered 160,939 in the first nine months, but that is the total of two-row Grand Cherokee and three-row Grand Cherokee L, so it’s kind of a cheat.
The Trax has even outshined the Chevrolet Equinox, which has been GM’s best-selling model that’s not a pickup for years. The Equinox was hamstrung by the mid-year changeover to a new 2025 version, however, so its 143,523 deliveries could get a big boost in the third quarter.

The Trax has a starting price of $21,495 and is the lowest-priced vehicle from any American brand, although it is imported from South Korea. It’s only available with front-wheel-drive and a 137 hp 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine good for a 30 mpg combined fuel economy rating.
