The $34,995 Chevrolet Equinox EV Is On Sale Now And The Competition Should Be Very Afraid

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV launched just a few months ago, but the 2025 model just went on sale and may change the electric vehicle game forever.

It was originally available in trims called 2LT and 3LT priced at $43,295 to $46,795, but the entry level LT is now available for 34,995.

It’s mechanically identical to those more expensive trims and comes standard with front-wheel drive and a 319-mile range for that price, which drops to $27,495 after the federal electric vehicle tax credit is deducted for those who qualify.

There is nothing that comes close to that price and range in the compact SUV and car segment. Tesla just discontinued its $40,380 Model 3 Standard Range, which was a smaller vehicle that could only go 272-miles between charges, and anything with 300 miles of range is well over $40,000.

Chevrolet also shuffled the lineup and got rid of the 2LT and 3LT designations. The Equinox EV is now offered in just LT and the sporty-looking RS trims, but there are several packages available that can get the LT to where the 2LT and 3LT were.

The LT comes with manual cloth seats and a 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system display, but the options list is full of features like heated power seats with Evotex synthetic leather upholstery, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control and even GM’s hands-free SuperCruise highway driving system.

Add enough of them and you can run the price of a front-wheel drive LT up to $49,750 or an all-wheel drive LT, which still has 307 miles of range. to $53,050. Along with its appearance updates, the RS comes with a higher level of standard equipment and starts at $44,795 for a front-wheel drive model, while a fully loaded all-wheel drive example is $55,540.

Chevrolet delivered 9,772 Equinox EVs to customers from July through September as production ramped up and there are more than 6,000 on or on the way to dealer lots right now, so those numbers should grow quickly. No other automaker is planning to launch a direct competitor on price and range anytime soon, but Chevrolet has something in the works.

Next year it will be introducing the next-generation Bolt, which is a size smaller than the Equinox EV and will replace a model that went out of production last year. Chevrolet hasn’t announced specifications or pricing, but it did cancel a $30,000, 250-mile version of the Equinox EV that made room in the lineup for the Bolt, which had a starting price that was less than $30,000 when it was discontinued.
