How To Watch The Tesla Robotaxi Event Live
The Tesla Robotaxi will be introducing itself on Thursday night, Oct. 10.
Tesla is set to unveil what’s promised to be an autonomous vehicle that it will one day deploy in a ride hailing service.
The event will take place on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Calif., at 7 p.m. local time, or 10 p.m. ET, so it’s a 10/10/10 thing for East Coasters.
Tesla has posted a link to the livestream of the event, which will be broadcast on X.
Bits and pieces of information that have dribbled out in recent years suggest that it will be a streamlined, two-seat car with a small trunk for luggage. Photos of a camouflaged vehicle being tested on the Warner Bros. lot’s roads back this up, although the vehicle’s exact shape is disguised by a yellow wrap and parts that distort its body.

Tesla is calling the event “We, Robot” which may be a reference to the bigger plan it has for autonomous driving. When the technology is ready and regulators have approved it, Tesla says it will allow the owner of every Tesla equipped with its Full Self-Driving feature to add it to the ride hailing service when they don’t need to use it. That would allow them to earn money as if they were working for Uber or Lyft, but without having to do any driving themselves. A timetable for the start of the service has not yet been confirmed.

Full Self-Driving has become a very capable semi-autonomous system that can navigate highways and city streets, but currently requires a human to be behind the wheel to take over for when it is unable to operate independently. A recent independent test by ACMI found that the system required the driver to takeover at least once every 13 miles.

The Robotaxi was originally scheduled to debut on Aug. 8, but Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he had it delayed to make a few last-minute changes. He also said that there might be a couple of other things the company has been working on at the Oct. 10 event, but didn’t elaborate.

Among the possibilities are an updated version of the long-gestating, second-generation Tesla Roadster that is currently slated to go on sale next year. There’s also been talk of a Tesla Robovan and an updated Model Y that is expected to go on sale soon.
