The NASCAR races at the Charlotte Roval this weekend promise to be interesting.
The track was reconfigured this year to create more passing opportunities.
The infield now features a longer run between Turn 5 and Turn 6 and a sharp hairpin at Turn 7 that’s meant to create a harder braking zone.
The chicane on the front straight has also been tightened up to slow the cars down and it’s very much an unknown how things will go during the Xfinity Series and Cup Series races.

NASCAR has updated the procedures for what cars need to do if they miss the new chicane or the one on the back straight, which hasn’t been changed. A video released by the series explains that there are two options when that happens.
If a driver misses the entry to the back straight chicane, they can do a stop and go within the painted area between the chicane’s track surface and the wall. Alternatively, they can perform the stop and go on the front stretch apron just before they cross the start finish line on the same lap.
If it’s the new front straight chicane that they blow, they can either do the stop and go on the apron or in the back stretch chicane’s stop and go area on the next lap.

Failure to do a proper stop and go may result in a pass-through penalty and any violations that happen too late in the race to do any of the above before the checkered flag will garner a 30-second post-race penalty.
The Xfinity Series race is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Saturday and the Cup Series race for 2 p.m. ET on Sunday. Both are serving as cut-off races to determine what playoff drivers make it to the Round of 8 that kicks off at Las Vegas Motor Speedway next week.
