The Shelby GT500 Code Red Is A 1,300 HP Mustang That Can Outrun Demons

It’s the horse you want to be riding when you need to outrun a demon.

The upcoming Ford Mustang GTD is set to be Ford’s most powerful production car ever with it 815 hp supercharged 5.2-liter V8 for $325,000, but there’s a way to get a much more potent pony for a little less.

The Shelby American GT500 Code Red is a modified version of the 2020-2022 Shelby GT500, which had a version of the GTD’s engine rated at 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque.

The Code Red trades the supercharger for twin turbochargers, new pistons, a high-flow intake system and everything else needed to boost its output to 1,000 hp and 780 lb-ft when running on premium, but give it a stiff drink and it can crank out even more.

Burning E85 boosts the power to 1,300 hp and 1,000 lb-ft, unlocking amazing acceleration. That also makes it more powerful than the discontinued Dodge Challenger Demon 170, which was rated at 1,025 hp when chugging the alcohol blend. A Shelby widebody design wraps a 13-inch wide wheel and tire package at the rear that gets fed the power through upgraded half-shafts.
