The Tesla Cybertruck Is Destroying The F-150 Lightning On The Sales Charts
Sales of the Tesla Cybertruck continue to accelerate at a pace worthy of the 845 hp pickup.
According to the latest EV market report from Cox Automotive, Tesla delivered 16,692 Cybertrucks in the third quarter to bring its 2024 total to 28,250.
That puts it far ahead of its closest rival, the Ford F-150 Lighting, which accounted for 22,807 deliveries through September and just 7,162 in the third quarter. The Chevrolet Silverado EV that’s newer to market had 1,995 deliveries. Driving the Cybertruck’s popularity home is the fact that it was selling for an average transaction price of $116,000.

And it was also the third best-selling EV overall in the quarter behind only the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, which combined for 145,224 deliveries. Fourth on the list was. the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which went home with 13,392 buyers during the period.

Tesla doesn’t have any new model launches scheduled for anytime soon, but last week unveiled a Robotaxi prototype that it hopes to have on sale sometime in 2026.
The plan is for it to have full autonomous capability that will allow it to be deployed through a Waymo-style ride hailing service, but Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the company is aiming to sell it to retail customers for less than $30,000.

Tesla also has plans to introduce a more conventional model that’s priced below the Model 3, but didn’t have anything to say about it at the Robotaxi event. The cheapest Model 3 is currently the $42,490 Long Range, which sells for $34,990 after the federal tax credit is deducted.
