See It: GM President Drives 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 To Record 233 MPH Top Speed
It’s good to be the boss.
General Motors President Mark Reuss pulled out his helmet and fire suit to help test the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 at a track in Germany and claimed a record for the automaker while he was there.
Reuss drove the 1,064 hp car to a top speed of 233 mph on the 7.5-mile high-banked oval, which confirmed it as the fastest production car ever built by a major American automaker.
The car completed runs in opposite directions to make the speed official and hit 233 mph both ways, which beats the 2017 Ford GT’s 216 mph speed as well as the 2019 Corvette ZR1’s 212 mph. Reuss started his GM career as an engineer and has trained to be a certified test driver for the company.

Several other American cars like the Hennessey Venom GT and SSC Tuatara have gone faster, but those are extremely low volume models from boutique outfits.

Along with the top speed, Chevrolet also says it will be able to cover a quarter-mile in less than 10 seconds, but it hasn’t officially certified a time yet.
Pricing for the Corvette ZR1 has not yet been announced, but Chevrolet said the speed makes it the fastest car currently on sale for less than $1 million, although we expect it to be a lot less than that. The Corvette Z06 that uses a 670 hp naturally aspirated version of the 5.5-liter V8 starts at $115,390 and a fully loaded one is about $160,000, so the Corvette ZR1 might end up in that ballpark.

Production of the Corvette ZR1 is still a few months away and will start being built alongside the other Corvette models at GM’s Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky in the middle of next year.
