The Chevrolet Corvette remains one of the world’s top-selling sports cars, but production fell dramatically for the 2024 model year for an interesting reason.

According to the annual production report issued by the National Corvette Museum, which is adjacent to the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, Ken., Chevrolet built 42,934 cars for global sales during the 2024 model year.

That was down from 53,785 in 2023 and represents a 20% decline, which was reflected in cars built for U.S. sale, which fell from 46,865 to 37,234. Production doesn’t track exactly to deliveries, however, and U.S Corvette deliveries through September of this year were up 1.1% to 25,711. Production for the 2023 model year also took place over an extended 17-month period compared to 12 months for 2024, according to Corvette Blogger, which explains some of the discrepancies.

The entry-level Stingray was the most voluminous model built at 30,942 coupes and convertibles, while production of the top of the line Z06, which had a starting price of $115,390, increased to 6,413 to 10,575.

The new-for-2024 E-Ray hybrid was the least popular by far at 1,417, despite being the quickest Corvette ever and the first with all-wheel drive. The base price for a coupe was $106,595.

Of the 1,231 Corvettes built with right-hand drive, only one was an E-Ray convertible, making it the rarest configuration ahead of 27 Z06s and 32 E-Ray coupes.

The museum’s report has a full breakdown of the production numbers for various colors and options.

There will be a fourth model added to the list for 2025 when production of the new ZR1 begins early next year. The 1,064 hp ZR1 was recently confirmed to have a top speed of 233 mph, making it the fastest car ever built by a major American car company, but other performance specifications are yet to come.

The price has also not yet been announced, but a fully loaded Z06 checks out at more than $150,000, if that’s anything to go by.
