The first Dodge car with a V8 engine was the 1953 Coronet and the last a 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, but the brand still has one model with the classic American engine configuration.

The Dodge Durango SUV kept the eight-cylinder burning in 2024 and is soldiering on into 2025 with two V8 options. The 6.4-liter Hemi was discontinued in 2024, but the 5.7-liter Hemi and supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8s are still available.

The 5.7-liter is being offered in a Durango R/T trim rated at 360 hp and 390 lb-ft, while the Durango SRT Hellcat’s V8 has 710 hp and 645 lb-ft. The lineup rounds out with an entry level Durango GT that has a 3.6-liter V6 rated at 295 hp and 260 lb-ft.

Dodge is keeping this simple with just those three trim levels, but is releasing a line of special edition models that includes the R/t 20th Anniversary, Durango SRT Hellcat Silver Bullet, Durango SRT Hellcat Hammerhead and Durango SRT Hellcat Brass Monkey, each with unique color and content combinations.

The SRT Hellcat also gets all-wheel drive standard. The price for a standard model hasn’t been announced, but the Silver Bullet starts at $113,325, the Hammerhead at $113,720, and the Brass Monkey at $115,315. The three special edition trims are bundled with options and special appearance features.

The SRT Hellcats can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, cover the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds and hit 180 mph top speeds. That makes them rivals for the electric upcoming all-electric Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack, which has a 670 hp all-wheel drive system and can sprint to 60 in 3.3 seconds, do the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds and has a top speed that’s governed at 134 mph.

All of the American Stellantis brands — Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram — have been aiming to eliminate V8s from their light duty vehicle lineups and the only other model left with one for 2025 is the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392.
