Electric Ford Puma Gen-E Revealed, But You Can’t Have It
The Ford Puma subcompact SUV essentially replaced the Fiesta in the company’s lineup last year and has been a big hit for the brand … in the U.K.
It’s the best selling vehicle there and popular across Europe, and now it’s available in an all-electric model called the Ford Puma Gen-E.
Unlike the electric Ford Explorer and Capri that are based on a purpose-designed electric vehicle platform borrowed from Volkswagen, the Puma Gen-E is an electrified version of the internal combustion engine model, which has a 155 hp hybrid powertrain with a three-cylinder turbocharged engine.
The Puma Gen-E features a 166 hp electric motor driving the front wheels and a 43-kWh battery pack that’s good for up to 233 miles on the European test cycle, which would likely be a bit under 200 miles using U.S. standards.

It can accelerate to 60 mph in a brisk eight seconds, but the top speed is governed at 99 mph. Recharging from 10-80% is possible in 23 minutes.
The interior features dual digital displays up front and a deep “GigaBox” trunk in the rear that’s designed to maximize the cargo carrying capability in the 165-inch long vehicle, which is about the same as the old Fiesta.

The Puma Gen-E lists for an On The Road price that includes all taxes, fees and registration costs of £29,995, which is roughly $38,000. For comparison, the hybrid Puma starts at £26,350 and the larger, electric Mustang Mach-E at £43,330.
Unfortunately for U.S. car shoppers looking for this sort of thing, Ford has no plans to try to sell the Puma here like it did the Fiesta from 2011 to 2019, even if it is roomier and technically one of those SUVs Americans love so much.

But, for now, the brand’s lowest-priced model in the U.S. is the Ford Maverick pickup, which starts at $25,515 for one with a 250 hp turbocharged four-cylinder, so that’s not a bad consolation.
