It’s like the the return of the Allanté!
The Cadillac Formula 1 Team that is launching in 2026 will use Ferrari power units for the first several years, the Italian automaker confirmed today.
With Sauber switching from Ferrari to Audi in 2026, it was widely speculated that Cadillac would pick up Ferrari’s surplus availability until its own power unit is ready in 2028, at the earliest.
Ferrari has also been supplying engines to the American Haas F1 Team since 2016.

The Cadillac Formula 1 Team is a collaboration between General Motors and TWG Global, which has assumed operating control of Andretti Global since the departure of Michael Andretti from day-to-day operations. 1978 Formula 1 champion Mario Andretti will serve on the team’s board of directors and act as an advisor to the effort.

When Cadillac begins using its own power units, it will become the first all-American manufacturer to compete in the series. Ford will also be competing in Formula 1 starting in 2026 through a strategic partnership with Red Bull Powertrains, but will not be entering its own cars.
If you’re not familiar with the Allanté reference, it was a Cadillac convertible sold from 1987-1993 that featured a body designed and built by Pininfarina in Italy that was shipped to Michigan for its powertrain and final assembly.

Coincidentally, Pininfarina designed cars for Ferrari for decades, but the relationship ended about a decade ago.
