Tesla Sweeps Made In America Auto Index With Top Models And Brand
There is no doubt!
Tesla dominated the 2024 Made In America Auto Index compiled by the Kogod School of Business.
The annual report attempts to determine the percentage that a “vehicle’s value contributes to the overall well-being of the US economy.”
Major factors considered are where the vehicle and its parts are manufactured. Even many American-made models use a large number of components imported from other countries.

Tesla, which builds every car it sells in the U.S. within the U.S., was ranked the top brand overall by a wide margin with a score of 81 out of 100. Honda followed at 63 ahead of Ford and General Motors tied at 54.
Stellantis (the parent company of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram) was next at 46, with VW (35), Toyota (29), Nissan (24) and Hyundai/Kia (17) rounding out the list of top brands.

Tesla also took the top five spots on the model-specific list with the Model 3 Performance (87.5), Model Y Long Range (85), Model Y (85), Cybertruck (82.5), Model S (80) and Model X (80).
Three configurations of the Ford Mustang tied the Model S and Model X with a score of 80 while the Alabama-built Honda Passport AWD and Passport TrailSport followed at 76.5.
One caveat to the study is that there isn’t a separation of U.S. and Canadian parts content, which are reported together under the American Automotive Labeling Act.
The Model Y and Passport also topped the Cars.com American-Made Index, which uses a different criteria and only considers vehicles that are assembled within the U.S.
OFFICIAL: TESLA IS THE LAST ALL-AMERICAN CAR BRAND
Tesla will soon be the last full-line automaker that can make that claim for all of the vehicles it sells in the U.S. Cadillac and Acura have fit that bill for many years, but both will soon be launching new Mexican-made models. The all-electric Cadillac Optiq and Acura ADX will end their streaks.
Rivian and Lucid also build all of their locally-sold products within the U.S., but currently have just two models each.
