Ford Mustang Or Chevrolet Corvette — Which Is The USA’s Best-Selling Sports Car?
And then there were two.
With the discontinuation of the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro, the USA’s sports car battle is a two-horse race. Well, one is named after a horse, the other a warship, so the mixed metaphor is appropriate.
The Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Corvette are the last two American two-door sports cars, although they will be joined by the new Dodge Charger Daytona and Charger in 2025. The only new Camaros this year will be NASCAR cars.
The full-year deliveries for 2024 are in and the Ford Mustang was the winner with 44,003. It was something of a Pyrrhic victory, however, as it marked the lowest sales for the Mustang in its 60-year history. An updated seventh-generation car was launched this year, and it’s possible the switchover affected supplies, but we’ll be keeping an eye out on 2025.

Despite having a $69,995 starting price that’s more than twice the Mustang’s, the Corvette accounted for
33,330 U.S. deliveries.
That put it ahead of the zombie Dodge Charger, which Dodge loaded dealers with before production ended and racked up 27,056 deliveries.

Chevy didn’t put the same effort into the Camaro, however, and just 5,859 found new homes during 2024. According to Cars.com, there are only about 50 that are still up for grabs.
The Mustang V Corvette duel will continue this year as the 815 hp Mustang GTD and 1,064 hp Corvette ZR1 hit the streets and tracks.
Shots have already been fired with the Mustang GTD claiming an American lap record at the Nürburgring and the Corvette posting a 233 mph top speed that is the highest of any car from a major American manufacturer.
