Now this is a portable entertainment system!

The joint automotive venture Sony Honda Mobility has unveiled the production version the Afeela 1 electric car that will launch the brand in 2026.

The car made its debut at CES in Las Vegas on Monday night looking very much like the prototypes that preceded it at the show in years past.

The midsize four-door liftback is set to be manufactured at a Honda factory in Ohio starting in 2026.

The Afeela is powered by a 480 hp all-wheel-drive system and has a 91-kWh battery pack good for approximately 300 miles of range, but it is meant to be much more than an electric car.

It is equipped with 40 sensors, including lidar, that will enable Level 3 autonomous driving, which would allow for a driver to hand full control over to the vehicle on certain roads and take advantage of the vehicle’s entertainment features.

The dashboard has screens that span the top of it and there are two more for the rear seat passengers, plus a Sony 360 Spatial Sound Technologies audio system. The system can play Sony Playstation games, videos and can be loaded with a library of apps. There is also a voice assistant called the Afeela Personal Agent that can control many of its systems and provide information.

As for when the driver takes control, the Afeela has a yoke-style steering wheel, like the ones available in the Tesla Model S and Model X, and uses steer-by-wire like the Cybertruck, which is better-suited to its autonomous technology than a mechanical system would be.

The Afeela 1 will come from the factory with the NACS (North American Charging System) plug and will be compatible with the Tesla Supercharger network, but can only charge at up to 150 kW, which is on the slow side today and should require about a half-hour to fill the battery to 80%.
