One of the iconic 1960s Batmobiles is being offered for auction at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson event in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The car is the third one created for the production of the “Batman” television show and was also used during the making of “Batman: The Movie” and for promotional events, according to Barrett-Jackson.

Unlike the original TV Batmobile, which was a 1955 Lincoln Futura show car redesigned by famous car customizer George Barris, the No. 3 car was built on the chassis of a 1966 Ford Galaxie.

The car’s fiberglass body was made from a mold of the original’s and its interior is equipped with switches and buttons for the various gadgets depicted on the show.

It is powered by a modified 289-cubic-inch V8 and wears Mickey Thompson Indy Profile tires appropriate to the hot rod era in which it was born.

The No. 3 car was auctioned by Barris himself in 1983 for $77,000, but another of the Batmobiles would go for a bit more than that 30 years later.

The No. 1 Batmobile was sold at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in 2013 for a hammer price of $4.2 million that ended up $4.6 million after adding all of the fees. That car was purchased by Phoenix area logistics company owner Rick Champagne, who passed away in 2022.

No pre-auction estimate has been given for the No. 3 car, but it is being offered without reserve, so the market will decide what it is worth at the auction, which runs from Jan. 18 to 26.
