There’s a fast way to pick up extra points during the 2025 NASCAR season.

The new Xfinity Fastest Lap program will award a race point each to the driver and owner of the car with the fastest lap during the race, regardless of finishing position.

Formula 1 had a similar rule for the past five seasons, but only drivers finishing in the top 10 could get the point and it has been eliminated for 2025.

The points will count toward the season standings in Cup, Xfinity and Trucks, but only for full-time championship-eligible drivers. If a part-time driver is in the car, then just the owner gets the point.

Ties will be broken by who has the best finishing position in the race. Disqualified drivers will lose the bonus point and it will go to the next fastest driver.

NASCAR noted that Kyle Larson lost the regular season title by one point last year and his five fastest laps would’ve put him over the top.

The drivers with the most fastest laps at the end of the season will also get prize money to donate to the charity of their choice. The payouts are $30,000 for Cup, $20,000 for Xfinity and $10,000 for Truck Series.

Xfinity also announced that 2025 will be the last year that it is the title sponsor for the Xfinity Series, although it will continue as a Cup and Xfinity series sponsor. NASCAR has not announced if there will be a new title sponsor or if the series will be given its own name.
