American Cars And Racing just had to go two-wheeling for this one.
A 1915 Cyclone V-Twin motorcycle was sold at the Mecum Auctions Las Vegas Motorcycles event for $1,320,000.
That’s a new all-time record for motorcycle auctions and the first time ever that one has been sold for more than $1 million.
The old record was $935,00 for a 1908 Harley-Davidson “Strap Tank” that was auctioned at the same event in 2023.

Cyclone was a short-lived brand that only lasted from 1913 to 1915 and built around 300 motorcycles during that time. Of those, approximately 14 remain and have become among the most valuable collector bikes.
The 1915 V-Twin sold in Las Vegas was fully restored. It’s 61-cubic-inch engine was the most powerful of the day at 45 hp and could propel the bike to more than 100 mph. It drives the rear wheel through a single-speed transmission operated by a foot clutch and has a leaf spring front suspension. The rear is hard tail, but the leather saddle is sprung.
In an amazing coincidence, the Cyclone was sold on Feb. 1 just hours after a 1954 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Stromlinienwagen grand prix race car was auctioned in Germany for $53 million, which was the second-highest price ever paid at a public auction for a car.

The Cyclone had been owned by renowned motorcycle collector Urban S. Hirsch III, who died in 2024, and it wasn’t the only high-dollar sale of one of his bikes at the event. Dozens crossed the block, with the second highest price paid for a 1938 Croker Twin that went for $880,000.
