Tesla Cybertruck Scores 5-Star NHTSA Safety Rating

The Tesla Cybertruck has been through a crash course.
The electric pickup has been given an official NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) safety rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA.)
Both versions of the Cybertruck qualified for a 5-Star overall score, which included five-star results for the frontal and side impact tests and a four-star rating for rollover resistance. The testing was conducted on December 18, 2024 and the final report filed on December 14, 2025.
The announcement came as something of a surprise as NHTSA had previously indicated a score wasn’t expected since the Cybertruck is classified as a Class 2b heavy truck. The agency typically focuses this test on popular volume light duty models.
The only other electric pickup rated so far is the Ford F-150 Lightning, which also has a 5-Star overall score, with four-star front, five-star side and four-star rollover ratings.

As is often the case with these evaluations, the test was conducted by a contract testing agency that provided NHTSA with the data for its approval. NHTSA has said that it will put the Chevrolet Silverado EV through the crash test program sometime this year.

American Cars And Racing reached out to NHTSA after hours for comment on the Cybertruck test, but it had not yet replied when this story was published.
The Cybertruck has not yet been evaluated by the independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which uses different criteria from NHTSA and is considered a tougher examination, and the organization has not announced any plans to do so.
