Ford Mustang Mach 4 Name Trademarked For Possible 4-Door Pony Car

The Ford Mustang has already achieved Mach 1, but it may soon hit Mach 4.
Ford has filed a trademark on the Mach 4 name for use on automobiles, as first reported by Ford Authority.
News broke last year that Ford CEO Jim Farley had revealed to the company’s dealers a four-door version of the Mustang that was tentatively called the Mach 4 and under consideration for production.
No images or detailed descriptions of the vehicle that was unveiled at the very private event last summer have leaked out, but it is understood to be powered by an internal combustion engine, unlike the Mustang Mach-E four-door SUV.

Earlier in the year, Farley told Autocar that “there will never be room for a small, two-row Ford SUV with a Mustang badge stuck on it. But could we do other Mustang body forms — a four-door or whatever? I believe we could, as long as these models have all the performance and attitude of the original.”

Ford has never sold a four-door Mustang and hasn’t had a sedan in its lineup since the Fusion was discontinued in 2020. The last four-door it made that was anything like a performance car was the full-size Taurus SHO that wen’t out of production in 2019.

Farley also showed dealers an off-road version of the Mustang coupe that was under consideration as it looks to expand the pony car lineup. The next model being released is the $325,000 Mustang GTD, which is the most powerful and expensive Mustang ever built.
