Las Vegas Police Adding Tesla Cybertrucks To The Fleet

The Tesla Cybertruck and Las Vegas have an unfortunate relationship, but the city’s police force is hoping to turn it around.
One of the electric pickups was blown up in front of a Trump hotel in the city in January by an Army Green Beret who died in the explosion. He left behind letters suggesting he was trying to send a message in regard to a variety of public issues, but also that he wasn’t against Trump.
Elon Musk pledged to repair the vehicle and get it back in operation, as it appeared to have fared well in the explosion, which was accomplished with fireworks and gas tanks.
Now, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has revealed that a small fleet of Cybertrucks had been donated to the force.

“These badass machines, we’ve ordered 10 of them,” Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill said during the annual state of the department address.
“By the way, we ordered these before the Trump Tower,” McMahill added.
The donor was originally anonymous, but Police 1 later confirmed that they were paid for by venture capitalist Ben Horovitz.
“The cop inside will be safe no matter what. They stop bullets. They are also a tremendous recruitment tool for us,” McMahill said.

The Cybertruck’s stainless steel body is capable of stopping some low power ammunition, but doesn’t have a high level of armoring. However, McMahill also showed a rendering of a SWAT version that has been ordered and appears to be up-armored.

McMahill said that, along with being a useful tool, he thinks the Cybertrucks will help with community relations as people will stop to check them out and talk to the police officers.
An exact date for the first vehicle’s deployment on the beat was not announced.
