The Chevrolet Silverado EV offers more than 400 miles of range, which is a good thing because it’s entering a 400-mile race.

Chevrolet has built a Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept that is competing in this week’s Mint 400 outside Las Vegas.

The Silverado EV ZR2 is equipped with three electric motors that crank out a combined 1,100 hp and its suspension is lifted and upgraded with computer controlled Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve dampers. The dampers are an advancement of the passive Multimatic DSSV shock absorbers that are featured on Chevy’s production internal combustion engine Silverado ZR2 models.

The Silverado EV ZR2 also gets locking differentials, added underbody protection and its suspension provides 13-inches of travel for its 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires.

“There is no better proving ground to test the limits of our vehicles than competitive racing,” Scott Bell, vice president, Chevrolet, said in a news release. “The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept, which uses 98% GM production parts, showcases some of the best of Chevrolet to produce a beyond-capable pickup to tackle a challenging race of the Mint 400’s magnitude.”

The truck will be the lone competitor in the EV Open Production class and is being fielded by Hall Racing with team owner Chad Hall in the driver lineup. The team has not yet explained how it will handle recharging during the event.
