Jim Farley has some earth-shattering news for Ford Explorer fans. The Ford CEO has confirmed on social media that an off-road Explorer Tremor model is on the way.

“Coming soon. A new addition to the TREMOR Family,” Farley posted alongside a teaser image of the dirty liftgate of an Explorer with the Tremor name on it.

No other information about the model has yet been shared, but Ford has offered Tremor trims for all of its pickup lines and launched it on the larger Expedition SUV for 2025, which replaced the Expedition Timberline. The Explorer was also available in a Timberline trim from 2021-2024, but it was dropped when the midsize SUV was updated for the 2025 model year.

The Explorer Timberline came with all-terrain tires and an updated suspension that increased the Explorer’s ground clearance by .8 inches to 8.7 inches, plus redesigned fascias, underbody protection and a Torsen limited-slip rear differential. The only available engine was a 300 hp 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.

Styling aside, the Expedition Tremor is mechanically similar to the Expedition Timberline and it’s likely the Explorer Tremor will follow suit. However, it is possible that Ford will swap in the 2025 Explorer’s most powerful engine, which is a 400 hp 3.0-liter turbocharged V6.

Watch the review: American Cars And Racing recently tested the Maverick Tremor pickup, which is powered by a 250 hp turbocharged four-cylinder and has 9.4 inches of ground clearance.

Ford has put a new emphasis on off-road capable models recently. It introduced the Mustang Mach-E Rally electric SUV last year and another Mustang meant for dirt roads could soon be on the way. Farley reportedly told Ford dealers last year that an off-road version of the two-door Mustang was in the works.
