They have a need for speed.

Michael Jordan and Rick Hendrick may compete in the NASCAR Cup Series with team’s that field different brands of cars, but there’s one sports car they can agree on … and its neither a Toyota or Chevrolet.

The Hennessey Venom F5 is a Texas-built hypercar powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 that can crank out more than 1,800 hp.

The mid-engine two-seater is built with a carbon fiber tub and either a coupe or roadster body both in standard and Revolution trims, the latter with higher downforce bodywork.

The Venom F5s sends all of their prodigious power to the rear wheels through either a seven-speed automatic or six-speed stick shift, the latter being the most powerful production car with a manual transmission in history.

Hennessey says the Venom F5 was designed to reach speeds in excess of 300 mph and is working toward proving that on a closed public road one day. One has reached 271 mph on the old Space Shuttle landing strip in Florida during testing already.

The price for that kind of propulsion is around $3 million and Hennessey plans to build no more than 99 cars.

Jordan, who has owned many impressive automobiles over the years including a 1,877 hp electric Pininfarina Battista that costs roughly the same as a Venom F5, took delivery of an F5 Roadster in 2023.

Hendrick bought himself a Venom F5 Revolution Roadster last year for a very special reason last year: his 75th birthday.

As far as we know, the two haven’t met up to race their Venom F5s, but Hendrick got the best of Jordan last year in the NASCAR Cup Series, when Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron finished third ahead of 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick.

Joey Logano won the championship for Team Penske and was followed by his teammate Ryan Blaney, but team owner Roger Penske doesn’t own a Venom F5 … yet.
