The car gets top billing!

Max has released the first trailer for the upcoming J.J. Abrams-produced “Duster” streaming TV series and the name has a special meaning.

The show stars Josh Holloway as a mob getaway driver forced to team up with a rookie FBI agent played by Rachel Hilson in 1972 Arizona.

Hilson’s fictional character is the first black female FBI agent, who ropes Holloway into helping her take down the mafia family he works for.

That’s all well and good, but Holloway’s ride is what the show is named after. It’s a 1972 Plymouth Duster 340 with a Mopar hood scoop and T-bar shifter that sees a lot of action in the trailer. The Duster 340 was a bargain muscle car Plymouth advertised with a “heavy duty” suspension and a 5.8-liter V8 rated at 240 hp and 290 lb-ft.

The show’s logo even uses the iconic Duster badge. A Stellantis spokesperson told American Cars And Racing that the automaker is not directly involved in the production. The original Duster was sold from 1970 through 1976.

The show isn’t just Mopar cars, however. Classic models from several brands, including Ford and BMW, can be seen in the trailer.

The eight-episode series is set to premiere on May 15. That’s a week after the premiere of another series featuring a vintage Plymouth, albeit one set in the present day.
