See It: Ron Capps Walks Away From Massive Funny Car Explosion At Arizona Nationals

The cap blew off Capps’ car!
NHRA drag racer Ron Capps took a wild ride during the first round of eliminations at the Arizona Nationals on Sunday.
Capps got off the line first and looked like he was heading for victory from the right lane, but his engine blew about three seconds into the race.
The explosion blew the top off his Toyota Supra and sent it hard across the center line and into the right wall behind Alexander.
Despite the impact, Capps was able to walk away from the car and was released from the medical center without any significant injuries.
The 49-year-old said he smoked the tires, but that the rest of the incident was kind of a blur.
“It banged so quick, so violent and then it was a convertible … and I had fire in my face,” Capps said during his post-race interview on FS1.

“I’m sure I’m not gonna want to watch it, ’cause it was just hang on and let’s … this is gonna be bad.”
Capps had a similarly dramatic incident in Seattle last July, which he also survived without injury.
Alexander lost in the next round to Paul Lee, who went on to win the final against defending champion Austin Prock.
