The 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Is Back — Here’s How To Buy A Brand New One

It’s a living legend.
Hillbank Motor Cars, the purveyor of recreated classic cars like the Shelby Cobra and Ford GT40, has added a new pony to its stable.
The Hi-Tech Automotive 1967 Shelby GT500 is now available for purchase through the California-based company.
The so-called “REPROmod” features new body panels that are identical to the originals and attached to a modern bespoke chassis that is equipped with a fully independent suspension system using Bilstein coilover shocks.

It is officially licensed by Shelby American, but sold as a component car, which means the buyer is responsible for having a drivetrain installed.

The Utah-based company spent eight years developing it and suggests going with a Ford Coyote 5.0-liter V8 with either a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission, or the Predator supercharged 5.2-liter V8 paired with the six-speed stick.

The body and interior can be finished in just about any color combination and the retro cabin features Nappa leather and Alcantara trim.

“As we’ve seen with our amazing Superformance MKIII roadster, the desire to modernize classic cars has become very popular,” Lance Stander, CEO of Hillbank Motor Cars said in a news release.

“The new Shelby GT500 from Hi-Tech balances the desire of enthusiasts to retain the original styling of the 1960s muscle car but also enjoy a significantly sharper and refined driving experience. The original look of the car hides a modern engine, upgraded brakes, suspension and interior. Only 20 cars a year are scheduled for production, offering tremendous collectability in addition to a satisfying driving experience.”
Hillbank doesn’t list an exact price, but Hi-Tech Automotive says the chassis starts at $226,000.
