Subaru Trailseeker Off-Road EV To Debut At New York Auto Show, But What Is It?

The name says it all. Subaru has announced that it will unveil an all-new electric SUV at the New York International Auto Show on April 16.
The company released a single teaser image of the vehicle on social media showing its nameplate on a hatchback covered in dirt.
“Get ready to meet your newest adventure-ready sidekick from Subaru: the all-new 2026 Subaru Trailseeker EV SUV,” the post said.
No further details were shared, but Subaru last year confirmed that it was working with Toyota on three upcoming electric vehicles. The automakers currently collaborate on the Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X.

One of the vehicles will be built in the U.S., which gels with Toyota’s plan to start building a new three-row EV in Kentucky starting in early 2026. It hasn’t shown any images of the specific vehicle, but a few years ago unveiled a three-row SUV concept called the bZ Large SUV, which may offer a preview.

Subaru sold just 12,447 Solterra compact two-row SUVs in 2024, but the model’s range and pricing isn’t especially competitive in its class. It is also imported from Japan, which excludes it from the federal tax credit on electric vehicle purchases. However, the incentive can be applied to lease pricing.
The Trailseeker won’t be Subaru’s only news at the New York Auto Show. It will also debut the all-new 2026 Outback, which it has previewed with a photo showing the vehicle obscured behind a plume of dirt.
