Cadillac Formula 1 Team To Use Ferrari Power Until 2029

The Cadillac Formula 1 Team will be partly Italian for its first three seasons, the FIA has confirmed.
Cadillac is launching a two-car team in 2026, but the governing body said it has approved GM Performance Power Units to become an official engine supplier in 2029. Until then, Cadillac will be a Ferrari customer, as is tts fellow American outfit, the Haas F1 Team.
“Over two years ago, the FIA approved the entry of an eleventh team into the FIA Formula One World Championship, guided by my vision to expand the grid and bring new talent and opportunity to our sport. Although the process was at times challenging, the progress we see today affirms the journey has been worthwhile,” FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said in a news release.
“Welcoming GM Performance Power Units LLC. as an approved power unit supplier for the Championship starting in 2029 marks another step in the global expansion of Formula 1 and highlights the growing interest from world-class automotive manufacturers like General Motors.”

GM Performance Power Units is based in North Carolina near the automaker’s Charlotte Technical Center and where the Cadillac Formula 1 team will be based. The racing team is a collaboration between General Motors and TWG Motorsports. The 2026 car is currently under development, but the driver lineup has not yet been announced.
“With this approval from the FIA, we will continue to accelerate our efforts to bring an American-built F1 power unit to the grid,’’ GM Performance Power Units CEO O’Blenes said.
Once the power unit is read, Cadillac will become the first American works team in Formula 1 history, building both its engine and powertrain.
